Repurposing this Site: Walk Across America

forrest-gump-run.jpg

I’ve decided that for the meantime I’ll maintain this domain until I get a few things sorted out for an undertaking I’m planning for the next year.  If that happens, the content of this current site will be printed off and saved to my computer but otherwise erased from the Internet.  Why?

This blog is most likely to become the site where I will report back to friends, family, and fans as I undertake a solo walk across the United States of America from New York City to Los Angeles.  It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity that if I do, will occur next spring-summer.  I’m looking for a cause to walk for and am adding up the costs/benefits at present, so an official decision is still a ways away.

But if I decide to walk, what better site to chronicle it on then Zeitgeist Zephyr, Spirit of the Westward Wind.  I’ll be walking west and in my walk across America, document the zeitgeist of the age.  I will have just one opportunity to do this and that will be during what would be my Junior year of college.  Of course, in taking time off from school to do this, I will be graduating at a later date, but it is a sacrifice I’m willing to make before my life becomes absorbed by my passion for space exploration.  A walk across America will surely cement my roots and mind to terra firma and the land of E Pluribus Unum.

Once again, this site will no longer be used to blog about politics, but I will update frequently regarding my theoretical trek, which at present I’m taking fairly seriously despite what the naysayers might be saying!  Stay tuned for more updates!

Music Creativity is a Battlefield

I was listening to the radio today when I heard Jordin Sparks’ newest single, “Battlefield” come on and couldn’t help but notice it sounded very similar to another song I had heard recently, but couldn’t place my finger on it.  After a quick Google search, I realized my suspicions were true and the chorus in her song is nearly, if not exactly, the same as the chorus to “My God is an Awesome God.”  If you don’t believe me, listen for yourself.

This is the most recent in a trend where musicians are coming across the same chord combinations for their chorus lines, whether intentionally or not.  Coldplay has been in hot water for the numerous similarties their song “Viva La Vida” has with at least 3 other songs, including an uncanny similarity to “If I Could Fly” by Joe Satriani.

Either musicians are taking the risk of being cheap because they can’t use their own creativity or, as I once wondered years ago, maybe we’re reaching the point where all possible 3 or 4 chord combinations have been used and that maybe musicians will have to resort to (gasp) actually writing music like they did in the old days with distinct movements and melodies that weren’t confined to a pop driven beat or a 3 chord combo that will for sure rocket to popularity since it can be remembered so easily.

Changing the Format

I’ve finally motivated myself to change the theme and overall format of my blog, so bear with me over the next few days as I get things straightened out once and for all.  Of note all posts are now open for comment, no signing in or registering is required anymore, and I am in the process of providing ways to link to my posts on Facebook and other social networking sites.

What were they thinking?

What were they thinking when they decided to do a photo shoot of Air Force One over New York City?  There’s no reason to be pleased with this and share the anger that many New Yorkers are feeling about this.  Number one, even if they still wanted to do the photo shoot, they could have let the public know in advance, in which case it could have been a time for people to celebrate and peer out the window not in fear but in awe of a Boeing 747 presidential airplane with an F-16 in chase.

The other thing is that computer technology is amazing these days.  Why couldn’t they have taken a picture of Air Force One, while still in flight, and then super-impose the image over New York City with a view of the Statue of Liberty?  I’ve seen it done before with planes in the past, at least we’ll ALL know these pictures are real.  I’d like to see how they turned out, make it worth everyone’s trouble.

Proud to be an American

Irregardless of political ideologies, I’m sure that anyone who is watching (or watched) the footage coming from DC of the inaugural proceedings is proud to be an American.  It’s truly a blessing to live in a country where when a change in power occurs, there can be so much celebration and that through the chaos, it can all be achieved peacefully.  You have the current President sitting down having coffee with the President-elect before handing over power. The band playing triumphantly at the Capitol as members of Congress, the Judicial Branch, dignitaries and other guests arriving while nearly 2 million people file onto the National Mall is truly a tremendous sight to behold.  I wish I could be there right now!
