“Fire Shower of Nuclear Retaliation”

North Korea puts out some strange rhetoric, especially lately.  This is probably my favorite.  Coming from them, its more of an oxymoron than “compassionate conservative” or “military intelligence.”  Yes, it may even top “Microsoft works.”  While I’m not one to really laugh in the face of danger, I hear these blatant threats that I have come to expect to hear from North Korea with the knowledge in the back of my mind that at best they have just over half a dozen or so nuclear weapons.

Furthermore, it’s unlikely that they can fit them on the top of their plagued Taepodong-2 missile, which is the only weapon in their arsenal that has the Aleutian Islands or Hawaii within their range.  You’ll remember that North Korea has not once successfully demonstrated this weapon, while capable of reaching that far, can reliably do so, but they have a test coming up around July 4 so I’ll try not to be too presumptuous.

I assume that when they say “fire shower of nuclear retaliation” they’re talking about what would happen to them if they launched even just one nuclear weapon towards a U.S. territory, or towards Japan or South Korea for that matter too.  It’s hard to take seriously someone who wears platform shoes.

On Facebook’s Targeted Advertising

For those who don’t know, the popular networking site Facebook uses targeted advertising based on someone’s interests to increase the efficiency of advertisements on the website.  Users can either rate an ad with a thumbs up or thumbs down as something they would like to see more of.  I’ve never rated ads, and never will, because frankly I don’t care too much about most of the ads featured on Facebook.  But apparently, since I fit the demographic of someone who could potentially be a starving college student, I’ve been targeted with some get rich quick ads, promoting the concept that I don’t need to spend the summer flipping burgers to get money.  I couldn’t help but notice one such targeted ad that errily resembles french fries that are flipping me off.  Take a look.

It might be hard to read as it is displayed here, but the caption beneath it reads: “Don’t flip burgers, get a real job!”  A note of discretion to the advertiser, while I might not want to flip burgers for a living, convincing me to check out your product by having some french fries flip me off isn’t a good way to start!

Political HumorJoke of the Day

The Daily Show last night offered some much needed comic relief to the whole economic crisis and who’s really behind it all. Taking aim square in the crosshairs of Jon Stewart last night was Rick Santelli and CNBC and their brilliant outlook on the state of the economy over the last year or so. Why CNBC and Santelli? Need I say anything more than it was CNBC that kept telling us the economy was doing fantastic and they even encouraged us (the average homeowner and buyer) to go out and get mortgages from some of the banks and mortgage houses that collapsed last fall.

Now of course, Rick Santelli says everyone who took their advice doesn’t deserve any government bailout money. But of course the companies that got us into this mess do. I think my brain nearly hemmorraged the first time I heard Santelli’s rant because I was so infuriated.

This video made me smile for the first time in weeks on this whole debacle.
